Hello everyone!

Today is day five of Flashy feet Fridays!

Before we get started, I wanted to know how last week’s jumping practice went. Was it too hard or quite easy? Did you feel your legs get stronger with each jump you practiced? I hope everyone enjoyed their jumping time.

For today’s Flashy Feet practice, we will be focusing on moving sideways. It might be hard to balance at first because we are used to only moving forwards or backwards. Moving sideways can start out slowly and get stronger and faster as we improve with our practice. You can try out each movement as many times as you want until you get the hang of moving sideways with good balance.

Here is our sideways list:

Fast feet 8 shape

Sideways high knees

In and out step

Sideways jump

Skater Jumps

Sideways hop

Have fun practicing your sideways movement! Remember to practice safely and always be careful!

We hope you enjoyed your P.E./Movement class for today.  Continue eating well, washing your hands properly and EXERCISE!

Friday, May 22nd ~ Ms. Sallie’s Storytime

Hello everybody,

Do you have nights when you cannot sleep?  What do you do? Do you imagine things or do you count something?  Many people count sheep.  Come and listen to a story called Counting Sheep by Dr. Julie Glass, illustrated by Mike Wohnoutka.  Are you ready, don’t fall asleep!!

Counting Sheep by Julie Glass | Scholastic              Counting Sheep – Click here to view.

Most people count sheep when they cannot sleep (one sheep, two sheep, three sheep, and so on…)

* What did this man count and how many?

* What else do you want to count?

* Can you practice counting things by twos? (2, 4, 6, 8, 10)

* When you count normally by ones, how far can you count to?

Next time you can’t sleep, try counting sheep or something else and tell us in your comments whether it worked or not!

Here are some nice “Counting Sheep” videos you can watch.

Here’s a lot of ewes.  Ewes are girl sheep!

Here is a song about counting sheep… Can you help count?

In the recording, we talked about rhyming words…..After a good night’s sleep, you can exercise to this fun song called Exercise, Rhyme and Freeze!

And lastly, here is an activity that you can do and make:

If you don’t have cotton balls, you can crumple up some tissue paper to make fluffy balls.  Enjoy!!

Have a happy day today!

I have hidden 8 activities in different items scattered around the room. Can you find and do all of them? It would be super cool if you can do all of the activities in one day but you can also repeat or do other activities on different days!

Monday, May 18th ~ Ms. Hoshi’s Storytime

Hello, Everyone!

Good morning!  Let’s get you moving!   Here is a fun book filled with actions, and rhyming words!

Click here to listen, watch, and move to “Clap Your Hands”, by Lorinda Bryan Cauley.

Were you able to find some space to stand and do some of the actions?  Was there anyone who could do ALL of the actions?!  While I was reading it aloud, I was picturing in my mind all of you standing in front of me, moving :).  You can organize a Simon Says game with your family!  You could use some of the movements from the story.

Here is Jack Hartman’s song that is like… Simon Says, let’s play!

How did you do?  Do you have brothers or sisters that can play with you?

I’m curious, did you notice that there were no grown-ups in this book?!  And you must have noticed that there were animals interacting with the children AND… the animals were wearing clothes!   I guess we know that this is NOT a true story so it is called fiction, which means; “not a true story”.

This story had a pair of rhyming words on almost every page.  Do you remember any of the rhyming word pairs?  How many can you remember if you JUST look at the illustrations, and turn the sound (my voice) off…?

As an example, the first and second page have the words “feet”, and “seat”.  The third and fourth page has “head”, and “red”.  Can you draw a few of the word pairs, or make up your own rhyming pairs?  Have someone take your photo with your drawing, Like the principal’s challenge!  Your family can upload your photo it in the comment section below.  This is a private blog, just for Montessori families.

Now, think back inside your head to see if you can remember any more.  Maybe look at the story again WITHOUT the sound on…   If you know how to write, you can WRITE a list of the rhyming words, and have someone take your photo with your list!

I hope that you have fun with rhyming words.

See you again!

Ms. Hoshi

Friday, May 15th ~Ms. Mimi’s story time

Hello boys and girls,

What’s your favorite food?  Is it hamburger, soup, pizza or spaghetti?  Well, Minnie “loves” spaghetti more than anything!  She can eat it all day long.  Let’s see how much she loves spaghetti.

“More Spaghetti, I Say! ”  written by Rita Golden Gelman, Illustrated by Mort Gerberg.    Please click here..

Questions and suggested activities.

*What’s your favorite food that you love to eat, that you can’t get enough of?  Tell your mom and dad why you love it so much.

*Do you know what your family’s favorites are?  Why do you think they love that food so much?

*Eating too much of anything is not good, and not healthy.  Let’s try to eat a little of everything at every meal,  not only the things that we like.   Do you like salad?  Vegetable soup? Fish? Meat? Have you tried to eat food that you had not eaten before?  You never know until you try it!

If you have some spaghetti and pastas—and a little bit of clay—here’s a fun activity.

Can you be creative and build something?

For a challenging science experiment using spaghetti and marshmallows, you may want to try this activity with the whole family.

Would you like to draw spaghetti with meatballs? You can draw any way you like.  Here’s just one example.

Are you getting hungry?

Here’s a recipe for a spaghetti dinner.  Please click on the blue words (not the picture).

One pot of spaghetti with meat sauce. How does that sound? Yummy!
