Thursday May 14th ~Ms Catherine’s Storytime

Dear Parents & children,

Happy belated “Mother’s Day” to all our wonderful mother’s in our Saint Maur community. I want to share a book by Eric Carle who celebrates mothers in our animal kingdom called,

Does a Kangaroo have a mother too?

Please take a look and a listen HERE

*Please note: Just towards the end of my story reading there is an unintentional pause for a few seconds thanks to my internet. You can still hear me though.

Questions to ask after the story:

  1. Can you remember what animal was on the first page? A big clue, she comes from Australia!
  2. What animal has a long neck? Why do you think they have one?
  3. Which animal lives in the ocean?
  4. Which animal has a long trunk? Why is it so long?
  5. If a male lion is called a lion, what do you call the female?
  6. What do you call a baby elephant?
  7. What is the name of a baby kangaroo? Can you remember what a mother kangaroo is called?

Activities to try:

Just print or draw, cut and assemble together.

It’s Double P.E. / Movement Day! (5/12)

We are sorry for the technical problems we had this morning during our zoom class time.  New things happen but we model how we would like our children to be–problem solvers, risk takers and life-long learners.  We also like to show them that exercising is important and it is fun!!

Tuesday, May 12th ~ Ms. Sallie’s Story Time

Hello everybody, Do you have times you want to be silly and read a silly story?  I do!  Or do you have times when you feel like you want to say, “That’s good.” or “That’s bad.”  I surely do!  Today’s story is just that!!  It’s called That’s good!  That’s Bad!, written by Margery Cuyler and illustrated by David Catrow.

Have fun listening!!

Here are some questions for you to think about:

  • Have you ever been to a zoo?
  • Can you name the zoos you’ve been to?
  • Name 5 animals you might see at the zoo.  Can you draw pictures of them?
  • What animal do you like the most at the zoo?
  • Tell you mom something good that happened to you.
  • Tell your dad something bad that happened to you.
  • Can you make the bad better?

We can make good choices and bad choices.  Here is a coloring activity you can do to see what kind of choices you can make at school.

Making Good and Bad Choices

It’s fun to go to the zoo.  Unfortunately, we cannot visit the zoo at this moment, but you can pretend to be there with the following songs.

Hi everyone! Happy Friday!
Have you finished exercising for a 1 month challenge?
For today, I will introduce you to reptile yoga.
If you would like to do your 1month exercise challenge today as well, I would recommend you to finish your exercise first and then do this yoga to calm your body down. If you would like to just take a break from exercising and have a nice and calm Friday by doing yoga, that’s fine as well 🙂

Hi Everyone

The days are already getting a little warmer as we move more into spring. Make sure to remember to always drink water after doing your Flashy Feet Friday activities. Have you been trying them out on other days too? I hope you keep up your practice!

Here is our list for today:

Bunny jump

Close open jump

High knees

Sideways jumps

Hops

Star jump

Frog jump

Make sure to always be careful when jumping and moving around so that you don’t hit or hurt yourself or anyone else. Always try to do the best moving and jumping you can for about 30 seconds and then take a quick break to get ready for the next activity. I can’t wait to see your fast and flashy feet!

We hope you enjoyed your P.E./Movement class for today.  Continue eating well, washing your hands properly and EXERCISE!

Thursday May 7th ~ Ms. Hoshi’s Storytime

Good morning, everyone.

Today’s book is a bit different; it’s not a story!  It is a book that can give you ideas to help you decide what you might want to do when you grow up! Before you listen to the book, can you talk with whomever is reading the blog with you about what YOU might want to become… Maybe you’ll find a new idea in the book…

This book shows us lots of activities and jobs that happen in various workplaces.  Some of the places they visit are a school, a construction site, and an airport.  Then they explain what grown-ups do when they work in those places.

Click here to listen to What Do Grown-ups Do All Day?

Did you find a new job that you are interested in?

Is there a job that you really would not want to do?  Why not?

Are you interested in any of the jobs that your parents, or grandparents have done?

Here is a video of jobs adults do… which one interest you?  What tools do you need to use?

For your activity today, can you draw someone who’s doing a job that you are interested in?

If you don’t enjoy drawing, maybe you’d like to have someone who’s a bit older help you write a list about the kind of work that you might like to do, and what you would need to learn to do that job…

At dinnertime, you can ask your family members what other jobs they’ve done, or what their “dream” job would be?

Keep reading, and stay well!

Ms. Hoshi
