Tuesday, May 12th ~ Ms. Sallie’s Story Time

Hello everybody, Do you have times you want to be silly and read a silly story?  I do!  Or do you have times when you feel like you want to say, “That’s good.” or “That’s bad.”  I surely do!  Today’s story is just that!!  It’s called That’s good!  That’s Bad!, written by Margery Cuyler and illustrated by David Catrow.

Have fun listening!!

That's Good! That's Bad!: Cuyler, Margery, Catrow, David ...        That’s Good! That’s Bad! – click here to view

Here are some questions for you to think about:

  • Have you ever been to a zoo?
  • Can you name the zoos you’ve been to?
  • Name 5 animals you might see at the zoo.  Can you draw pictures of them?
  • What animal do you like the most at the zoo?
  • Tell you mom something good that happened to you.
  • Tell your dad something bad that happened to you.
  • Can you make the bad better?

We can make good choices and bad choices.  Here is a coloring activity you can do to see what kind of choices you can make at school.

Making Good and Bad Choices

It’s fun to go to the zoo.  Unfortunately, we cannot visit the zoo at this moment, but you can pretend to be there with the following songs.

Thursday, April 30 ~ Ms. Sallie’s Storytime

Hello boys and girls,

If we were at school, yesterday would have been our annual Food Fair.  Maybe some of you would have remembered it from last year, but for some, it would have been the first time.  If you were at the Christmas Bazaar last November, it would have been a much bigger version, with many food booths, games and vendors selling many goods.

Our story today is about a peddler.  A peddler is someone who comes around the neighborhood selling things. They could come on a bicycle, in a car or truck, pulling a cart, on foot, many many different ways.  It might be different depending on the country too.  Let’s see what this peddler does today in our story, Caps for Sale.  Please enjoy!

Caps for Sale        Caps for Sale – Click here to view

Here are some questions you can answer or think about:

  • What is a peddler?
  • Have you ever seen a peddler?
  • Do you think you can balance all those caps on your head?
  • How many caps were there all together?  How many of each and what colors?
  • What happened to the caps when the peddler woke up from his nap?
  • Can you watch again and pretend to be the peddler and then the monkeys?
  • Which cap do you think you would like to have?

Here are some activities for you to enjoy….

Coloring Worksheets ~

If you don’t have a printer, you can make your own peddler and then caps to place on his head.  If you make your own peddler, you can make other things for him to sell.  It could even be a girl peddler!

Click here for the coloring pages  (2 pages)

Movement Activity ~

Can you walk with something on your head?  You can find things to place on your head and see if you can balance it and walk around your room or your house.  When you get good with one, try to put another and another.

Here are some examples of placing a book or a basket on your head.  It’s actually a Montessori activity for Walking on the Line.  You can try walking on a line while placing these objects on your head!

You can change the word Friday to Sunday or Monday (sorry everyone….)

Hey everyone!

Today we will have Flashy Feet Fridays! On Flashy Feet Fridays, we will be doing activities to get our legs and feet, fast and strong. I have placed here some activities we can do to improve our lower body. You can do them as many times as you like and you can even ask others to do them with you. Soon enough, you will be able to do them quickly and develop strong and fast feet!

For this Friday’s Flashy Feet session, we will be reviewing how to do our bunny and star jumps and also get to know a few new moves!

Try to do each movement for about 30 seconds and then take a quick break to get ready for the next one! Repeat everything as many times as you want to get practice for those fast and flashy feet!

Here is this Friday’s practice:

-bunny jumps

-star jumps

high knees

sideways high knees

-hops

It’s Double P.E. / Movement Today!! (4/21)

3 Year Olds (in Ms. Barbara and Mrs. Almoula’s group)

The three-year olds work hard on following directions and refining their coordination.  Here is a simple song/dance you can do!

Everybody knows and loves the dance Hokey Pokey, but did you know that there is an Emotions Hokey Pokey?  Since you had a good workout this morning, let’s relax a bit with this song/dance:

4 Year Olds (in Miss Yuri and Ms. Hoshi’s group)

Today we will be doing some exercise for 5 minutes! 🙂

Please try 40 seconds of Marching On The Spot, Star Jumps, Low Sprint Shuffle, Squats and Climb The Rope while taking 20 seconds of rest time in between these exercises. Some of these moves are familiar to you, but some are new!

Make sure you have your water bottle near you so you can drink water when you need it.You will feel your heart beating very fast during this activity. Remember to breathe while you are exercising!

If 40 seconds feels too long, please adjust it to 20 seconds and 10 seconds of rest.

Please check this video to see how the exercise works!

Enjoy exercising!

5 Year Olds ~ Pre-First Graders (in Mr. Dale and Mr. Myk’s group)

Hi everyone! Today, I have 2 more sock ball activities for students (and parents) to play with!

The first one is a practice on catching from different angles. Learning how to catch things coming from different directions helps develop good reaction time and coordination too. Here is a   video   I made showing catching from different angles.

Video of Catching from Different Angles

Don’t forget the catching tips we learned from before:

-catching hands ready

-eyes open, always looking at the ball

-don’t look away or close your eyes

For our second activity, we have a game of  Knock the Shoe!

We are going to make targets from shoes and try to hit them with our sock balls. Here Is a video I made showing how to play the game. You can try throwing from different distances or use different sized targets or even do a locomotor movement before throwing! That’s going to be a fun challenge!

Video of Second Activity-Knock the Shoe!

Remember our steps for throwing:

-look at the target

-step with the opposite foot

-throw

When playing, we should always be aware of where we are and where we are going to throw our sock balls so that we do not cause accidents or hurt or damage anything. Have fun and stay safe!

We hope you enjoyed your P.E./Movement class for today.  Continue eating well, washing your hands properly and EXERCISE!
