Generally, I’m a big meanie and do not allow children to throw things in the classroom. However, I make an exception for the game Snowball! Between rounds of problem solving in math, grammar, or other areas, students get to crumple up their papers and throw “snowballs” in the classroom until the music stops. Then, everyone picks up a snowball, unwraps it, and completes another round of the worksheet activity. When finished, we ball up the paper again and have another snowball fight! ❄︎

In addition to working in our Math in Focus textbooks, we do many math activities outside of the books, too. For example, we create interactive notebooks, collaborate in small groups with manipulatives, or play games with partners.

We had a blast at the Halloween Game Show sponsored by the Elementary School Student Council on October 31st. Students were allowed to wear Halloween accessories with their uniform that day. Some 3rd graders were picked to play a whack-a-ghost game. I was picked to play the teachers’ game, too. There was even a dance party!

Pizza Party

Congratulations to 3G! They filled their marble jar with their good deeds, excellent behavior, and strong choices. The first goal the class voted to work towards was a pizza party. 🍕 I didn’t capture as many photos as I should have. I was serving all the food!

3G loves playing 99math, a math fluency game. Students play several rounds challenging themselves to earn as many points as possible for accuracy and speed in recalling the basic arithmetic facts. Each student works on an individual device.

Temples, Tombs, and Treasures

3rd grade launched a new IPC unit to study ancient civilizations. Our archeologists threw themselves into the work of uncovering artifacts buried in the sand and hidden in a dark tomb. Again, I regret that I couldn’t capture more photos.

Even Mrs. Forbes-Dias took a trip through the tomb!

I’m looking forward to meeting the whole class tomorrow morning. This will be an exciting year!
