School life

Storytelling Week

Next week we celebrate International Storytelling from March 18-22. Every day after school, there will be an open storytime in the library. Everyone is invited to join, no matter what language you speak! This will be a very fun event bringing together languages and cultures from across the world. Staff, parents, and students will collaborate on this exciting event.

Ice Cream Party!

Who filled the Marble Jar again?! 3G hit their goal by being amazing citizens, students, and friends. Through teamwork we maintained a PAX classroom – positive, peaceful, and productive. The class was awarded an extra recess in the Activity Room and an ice cream & movie party.

Congratulations, 3G!

Animal Museum

The 4th Annual Animal Museum was a big success! Thank you to all those who were able to join us. The students were extremely excited to show off their learning. They were also wiped out by the end of the day. This was a terrific culmination to our research unit.

Preparing the museum exhibits

Showtime!

Animal Museum: Next Week!

Please join us to celebrate third graders’ learning about how to research. Students have worked very hard to research and present an exhibition to share with the school community.

Library 📚

Just a casual visit to the library. This is how reading should feel.

Enoshima Aquarium

We hopped on the bus and headed out to Enoshima Aquarium last week! The weather was warm and we had a super trip. Students learned about marine animals, ecosystems, and of course penguins! 🐧

…and a moment of zen.

Slime Day!

The latest Fun Day had a messy theme – slime! Students created slime buddy characters, wrote stories about them, made Gloop or Oobleck, watched a funny movie, and of course, played with slime.

Decorating for Christmas

Boy did we have fun at Christmas time! I posted about some of the Christmas activities before the New Year, but there were also pics that didn’t make it up on the blog before the Great Blog Meltdown of 2023. 😆

Outdoor Snacktime

It is nice to change things up sometimes. We had a little outdoor snacktime on the Plaza Playground.

Judy “Bloom”

Over the Winter Break our classroom Christmas cactus, Judy Bloom, bloomed! She is named after the beloved children’s book author Judy Blume. This year our class read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume and it quickly became one of our favorite books.

One of 3G’s student hero jobs is to be the botanist. Each week our botanist cares for Judy Bloom, our tall cactus Reggie (short for Reginald Merriweather), and our aloe plant Kyle and his little brother Kevin.

Candy-grams 💌

The Elementary School Student Council (ESSC) is selling candy-grams for Valentine’s Day to raise money for UNICEF and Yokohama Children’s Hospice. These special notes can be purchased for ¥50 each from now through February 9th. Students can write a message to a friend, teacher, or staff member. Then the ESSC will add a little candy and deliver the candy-grams on February 14th. 💝
