Voicing Our Opinions

Third graders wrote opinion letters to leaders around the world including prime ministers, presidents, governors, and mayors. These were very passionate essays including several reasons and supporting details to convince leaders to take action. Recently, we walked to the post office to drop our letters in the mail!

Just how big is a square meter?

Students embarked on a challenging endeavor. They attempted to create one meter squares and one foot squares from smaller pieces of paper. Through the process students started to realize that the area of a square meter is quite big!

Practical Math

We learn math at school so we can use it in the real world. 3G put their learning to the test measuring liquid volume in cylindrical beakers, measuring cups, and pitchers. It can be surprisingly fun!

Word Work

How does one make word work interesting and engaging? Make it messy! We practiced recalling “tri-” words by writing them in shaving cream.

Bonus: The desks were super clean and the whole room smelled fresh after this activity! 😀

Mathematics

In addition to working in our Math in Focus textbooks, we do many math activities outside of the books, too. For example, we create interactive notebooks, collaborate in small groups with manipulatives, or play games with partners.

Busy!

Pizza Party

Congratulations to 3G! They filled their marble jar with their good deeds, excellent behavior, and strong choices. The first goal the class voted to work towards was a pizza party. 🍕 I didn’t capture as many photos as I should have. I was serving all the food!

99math.com

3G loves playing 99math, a math fluency game. Students play several rounds challenging themselves to earn as many points as possible for accuracy and speed in recalling the basic arithmetic facts. Each student works on an individual device.

Such focus!!

Temples, Tombs, and Treasures

3rd grade launched a new IPC unit to study ancient civilizations. Our archeologists threw themselves into the work of uncovering artifacts buried in the sand and hidden in a dark tomb. Again, I regret that I couldn’t capture more photos.

Even Mrs. Forbes-Dias took a trip through the tomb!

First Week of School

Wow! What a week! 3G is off and running this school year. We had so much fun getting to know each other and settling into new routines.

Birthday Board

We started working on our superhero birthday board. We even celebrated one class member’s birthday this week.

A Bit of Math

We shook off the cobwebs from summer and started recalling some of the math we learned in 2nd grade. We have helpful students in 3G! Many people were assisting their classmates.

Friendly Competition

Students worked in small groups to recall and categorize various types of nouns before the clock counted down to zero.

Indoor Recess

Due to the extreme heat, we had to have indoor recess all week. We made the most of it!

Lego Buddies

First Choir Class

3M and 3G combined forces for the first Choir Class of the year. Everyone looked excited! 🎶

First Assembly

Two PAX Coaches from 3G represented the class on stage at the first assembly of the year. They bravely read out Tootles they wrote to friends on stage in front of the whole school.
