IPC Archeologists

Our young archeologists combined forces with 3T to go on an imaginative adventure digging up artifacts and exploring an ancient tomb from one of the first great civilizations on Earth – Ancient Egypt! This was the entry point for our new unit in IPC. Over the next several weeks, we will do a deep dive into the history, culture, technology, people, and geography of Egypt. This is a fascinating unit of study.

Shake It!

Our Shake It! unit in IPC came to a close recently. 3G embarked on several experiments and discovery activities to learn about science and technology.

Success! We made butter!

After learning about several historical designs for whisks and mixers, 3rd graders attempted to plan and create their own original whisks. It seems easy at first, but students learned quickly that the wire was tricky to manipulate. However, problems were overcome and students had their own unique whisks for mixing milkshakes!

We made milkshakes!

Students put their handmade whisks to work making their own milkshakes. It was a sweet, tasty treat to finish off the quarter year.

Busy in IPC

We launched into our “Shake It!” unit with a milk investigation. Students made some terrific observations as they filtered, whisked, mixed, scooped, and shook the milk. Some key observations were noticing a change in color from white to yellow when shaking and “pure white” milk coming out of the filter while shiny liquid or small bits remained inside. I wonder what that could be? 🤔

There was a lot of cleanup, too!

Brainwaves!

Students threw themselves into the Brainwaves mini unit. There is so much to learn about how we learn! We tried to sort out the differences between knowledge, skills, and understanding. 3G worked hard on a small research project to learn how to care for our brains. The class created a hanging mobile full of helpful tips – on the back of neurons! – to teach everyone at Saint Maur how to care for this vital organ. If we take care of our brains, we can grow and learn even more!
