International Day

October 19th was International Day! Montessori through to Grade 12 took the day to celebrate the multitude of cultures and nationalities that exist within our school community. It was wonderful to have parents join us and share their own cultures with the students in Grade 3!

Maths: Surveys and Bar Graphs

This week in 3B, groups of students developed a series of survey questions. They popped next door to visit our buddies in 3F and collect data. Some of these questions included:

  • What book series do you like?
  • What is your favourite ice cream flavour?
  • What place at home do you like to play the best?

Once the data had been collected, the students were ready to create their own bar graphs to represent the data that they collected. Check out some of their fabulous bar graphs in the images below:

Field Trip to Zoorasia

This week 3B headed off to Zoorasia for our first field trip of the year! We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day as we explored the park and observed a large variety of animals.

Please enjoy some photos and student reflections from our field trip!

We love to read!

As part of Reading  Workshop, the students are learning to inspect and choose books that are a good fit for their reading needs. Always eager to discover new books to read, 3B has been working together to come up with ways to share books we love and recommend them to other people. After a whole class brain storm, we recorded several possible ways to achieve our goal:

3B had the opportunity to write book reviews for some of their favourite classroom books and then share their work in the library. They are now happy readers and  proud contributors to the Books we ♥ corner in our classroom!

Some students also suggested that we develop reading groups as a method to share and discuss our books.

We are enjoying sharing our favourite books and discussing our reading in groups. 3B loves to share information, inspire, and encourage one another in their reading.

Creative Writing Self-Portraits

It is hard to believe the first week of school is already over! We have had a fantastic week settling in and learning who we are as both individuals and as a classroom community. In art this week we explored colour, lines and words to help express who we are inside and out.
