Tuesday, April 7th ~ Ms. Sallie’s Storytime

Spring is here and so is Easter.  Easter is a time for a new beginning.  We see cherry blossoms in bloom and on the farms, we are starting to hear of animals being born.  It’s too bad that we can’t just say, let’s go out and enjoy Spring, but there’s always room for a story.  Today’s story is about a baby bunny and an egg.  Please enjoy!

Amazon | The Golden Egg Book (Little Golden Book) | Wise Brown ...        The Golden Egg Book by Margaret Wise Brown – Click here to enjoy!

Here are some questions to answer and think about:

* Were you able to guess what was in the egg?

* What other animals are born from an egg?

* Why do you think the duck kicked the bunny or rolled it down the hill?

* If you found an egg, what would you do?  Would you kick it or throw nuts or rocks at it?

A Question Game = Which animals hatch from eggs?

You can try making Easter bunnies and chicks out of paper plates anc paper cups!

Thursday, April 2nd, Ms. Hoshi’s Storytime

Good morning again St. Maur Montessori children and families!

I’m very happy this morning to share another story with you.

I have chosen a book that most of you know, because I want YOU to help me read this story!  Your parents will be surprised, but I know that many of you know the rhythm, and the rhymes from Dr. Seuss’, THE CAT IN THE HAT.

Today, can you draw a hat that looks like the one that the Cat in the Hat is wearing?  Or maybe you’d like to make one out of colored paper, scissors and glue?  Maybe you could draw/make your hat…. ontop of a cat?!

What are some activities that ‘real’ cats enjoy doing?  Are those activities similar to what the cat in this story does?  What things does this cat in the hat do during his day?

Would you like to share a picture of your drawing, in the comment section with us?  Or maybe you have a real cat in your house that you could show us…?

Tuesday, March 31st ~ Ms. Mimi’s storytime

How are you, boys and girls?  It’s already the last day of March.  Which month comes next?

Look what someone made with “Sticks and Stones”!   Does it bring a smile to your face?

My story today is called “When I Was Little” by Jamie Lee Curis, illustrated by Laura Cornell

Please click the title.         When I Was Little

The girl in the story had four birthdays since she was born. That means she is now four years old.  She is thinking back on the days when she was little, calling it a “memoire”, her true story, remembering what she was like when she was little.

Questions after listening to the story:

How old are you now?

Do you know how many birthdays you’ve had since you were born?

What are some of the things you remember when you were little?

Ask your mommy or daddy to show you some photos when you were a baby or a toddler.

What are you doing in these pictures?  Ask how you were like when you were little.

Did you cry a lot when you were a baby?

What was your favorite food?  Favorite toys?  Favorite things to do?

Suggested activities.

Now that you are much older, what are some of the things you can do that you couldn’t do when you were little?

What are some of the things that you will be able to do when you are much older?

————————————————–

Are you excited to get older and learn new things?

Now that you are older and you can do more things than when you were little, are you able to do more on your own?  Are  you being helpful around the house?

Look at the chart below and see what you are able to do.

Draw a picture or tell your family about:

“When I was a baby….  Now I can… ”

When I am grown up, what will I be able to do?

————————————————————————–

And here’s a funny video of what babies do…

Would you like to make a booklet “All About Me”?

You can make your own booklet, or ask your parents to print the following worksheets to make a booklet.

Monday, March 30th ~ Ms. Catherine’s storytime

Hello Parents & children,

Today I’d like to read to you the story “I Went Walking” by Sue Williams & Illustrated by Julie Vivas.

As I am reading, see if you can remember the animals that the child saw on his walk and then challenge yourself to remember them in sequence!

Let me know how you go in the comments below.

I went walking click HERE

Questions to think about and answer after the story.

1.Where do you think this child lives? Why do you think that?

2.Do you think the child told his mum or day that he was going on a walk?

3.Is it important to let an adult know if you are leaving the house?

Why or why not?

4.Why do you think the animals were following him?

5.Do you think the animals know him? Can you really climb all over animals like that? Why or why not?

Activities to try:

Print out the 2 pages here, colour and cut them out.

Now mix up the pictures and see if you can put them into the same sequence as the storybook. Then staple them together to make them into a book.

For extra writing practice try rewriting the sentences by yourself.

1.If you are in Language Arts 1 (LA1) you could practice writing the beginning letter sound of each animal. An example being: c for cat & h for horse on a separate piece of paper.

2. LA 2 children might like to practice writing out the sentences by themselves on a separate paper. Can you also think about other animals the child might have seen on her walk? Add these to your story by writing your own sentences and drawing a picture to go with them.

Indoor Scavenger hunts

Now, another fun activity to try while we are indoors is when you can go on a scavengers hunt looking for items.

I have included some below.

*One you will need to look for as many objects that are the same colour. Write in the number or tick how many you can find.

*The second is with clues. Ask mum, dad or an older sibling to read these to you and see if you can find them all.

*Mum & Dad please hide away page 2 which is the answer sheet!

Good luck! Tell me how you go in the comments below!

Best wishes,

Ms.Catherine X

Welcome to India!  We will make a Rangoli today.

If you don’t have round coffee filters, you can use any kind of paper — preferably something that the ink can bleed through to make the design symmetrical.

AFRICA

Let’s learn some African Dancing.  You can follow along to the beat of the African drum!

Now you can make your paper African drum!  Ask your mom or dad to draw the shape for you if you can’t.

AMERICA

The bald eagle was chosen in 1782 as the emblem of the United States of America.  Its long life, great strength and majestic looks, as well as it not being found on the European continent made it the choice of the new settlers.

Friday, March 20th ~ Ms. Sallie’s Story Time

Hello everyone,

If we were at school today, it would be International Day.  I would be able to see everyone in a special outfit.  Did you know that we have 26 nationalities amongst all of the children and teachers who are in and teach in the Montessori?  You are very lucky to have so many friends from around the world!

Please enjoy the story for today!  You will have a little treat!

Hello & The World Turns Round and Round – Click here to view

Here are some questions to answer:

  • What present did you like the most?
  • How do you say “grandmother” or “grandfather” in your language?
  • What present would you like to receive?

Here is a *Hello” Song in many languages:

Here are some activities from different countries:

1.) Flag Wreath – World-wide

Children love flags.  You can make a flag wreath with your hands!  Have your mommy or daddy trace around your hand (you can try too!).  Cut it out and then make it into a flag.  Make as many as you want to and then paste it together into a circle.  You’ve made a Flag Wreath!!  You are a Global Citizen!

You may want to paste the hands on a circular backing.

(Apologies if any flags are missing.)

2.) Dream Catcher ~ Native American Indians (U.S.A.)

A dream catcher is a ring that catches bad dreams and let’s you sleep peacefully through the night.  You can make one using a cardboard ring or by using a paper plate.  You can stick anything on the ring to decorate it, such as paper, straw pieces, beads, feathers, macaronis, whatever you have and like, just the the pictures below.  The string in the middle (optional) represents a spider web.  Spiders were known, by the Native Americans, to catch the bad dreams and make them disappear in the sunlight.  Please enjoy!

Here are some dreamcatchers you might like to copy….

3.) LEGO Maze – from Denmark to all over the world

Did you know that LEGO came from Denmark and the name comes from 2 Danish words “leg godt” which means “play well”?  The first LEGO was made 70 years ago!

Can you make mazes and use a marble to go through the maze?

I hope you enjoyed today’s story and activities.  You will be receiving another post later on today because it’s International Day at Saint Maur!  Until next time…..  Bye!

It’s P.E. / Movement Day Today!

It’s our P.E./Movement Day!  We hope you will enjoy the activities which were sent in by the teachers of the 3 age groups for you to do!!  We hope that you are staying healthy by 1) eating well, 2) washing your hands properly and 3) exercising!

3 Year Olds (in Ms. Barbara and Mrs. Almoula’s group)

The three-year olds work hard on following directions and refining their coordination.  Here is a simple song/dance you can do!

The children love to move and move and move and then FREEZE!! See how well your child can stay absolutely still and FREEZE.

4 Year Olds (in Miss Yuri and Ms. Hoshi’s group)

(1) Musical time/Dance moves:

Dancing Robot:

They have simple instructions such as turn your head to the right/left, stand up straight/raise/lower your left/right leg. The children can pretend to be a robot as they dance like a robot. Enjoy!

(2) Calming Down Exercise:

The children could sit criss-cross apple sauce (crossed leg) and try to calm down their bodies through this breathing and stretching exercise.

5 Year Olds ~ Pre-First Graders (in Mr. Dale and Mr. Myk’s group)

Pre-1st graders worked hard on a dance unit this semester.  They learned how to dance individually and as a team as we danced through the seasons.  Now, we can even move in “canon” where one person starts and another follows and another follows after that.  Since we cannot dance together with school closed, Mr. Dale thought you might like to try some individual dancing at home.  Here is a video about one of Mr. Dale’s favorite types of dance – ballet! You can follow along with this tutorial to learn how to jump like a ballet dancer.  This jump is called a sauté.  Happy jumping!

How To Saute ~ Jump Like a Ballet Dancer

We hope you enjoyed your P.E./Movement class for today.  That’s all for this week.  Don’t forget to wash your hands and exercise!  Stay fit and healthy!!

Thursday, March 19th – Ms. Barbara’s Story Time

Hello – hope you all are doing good.  Today I will be reading Are you my mother? by P.D. Eastman.

Can you answer these questions –

  1. Why did mother bird fly away?
  2. What animals did the baby bird see?
  3. What did the baby bird ask the animals?
  4. What was the Snort?
  5. What did the Snort do to baby bird?

If you want to make the binoculars, just decorate 2 rolls and stick them together and then get a string or a

ribbon long enough to put it around your neck.
