So much has been happening in the classroom in the month of November. Apart from our on-going morning work times with the Montessori materials and activities, we have been engaging in various seasonal activities.
Take a look and see what we have been doing and learning along the way.
Halloween
First up we started painting our own Halloween craft. We then cut out a spider shape, glued on googly eyes and legs to form our own puppet.
And then after the process of putting all the parts together with this craft, we came together to show our spider puppet.
Donations for the homeless in our community
Mrs Forbes Dias visited our classroom to tell us about a collection that we could be involved in to help the homeless in our community. While this season is exciting for a child to receive gifts, it is also a valuable experience and an act of empathy towards others to give what we can for those less fortunate in our community.
Mrs Forbes Dias invited the children to share what coins they have and to drop them into the coin jar that is sitting at the entrance to the Montessori building. Thank you to all who have given to this worthy community activity.
Diwali
Mrs Almoula also danced with the children to Diwali themed music around her light decoration which they all enjoyed. Sweets are also shared on this day, so the children all enjoyed a cookie together.
And the children coloured in their own rangoli design with some sparkly glitter added later.
Thanksgiving
Celebrating Thanksgiving is a time for the children to give thought to the people in their lives who love and care for them. In return we are able to reflect upon the ways that our family loves us, cares about us and guides us in our lives to be the best we can be. This year we made a “Thank you” placemat that we drew the people, foods and places that we are thankful for in our lives. It was fun for the children to look at each others placemats once we had finished our drawings and colouring. We also used it once in class together for our lunch time, before taking it home.
We have much to be thankful for in our lives in this current season. So this was extra special for the children to make for their families and use at home.
