International Day Part 1

Our International Day parade is always such a fun day for the children to dress up and show their countries costumes. We have 12 nationalities representing alone in our classroom! What a wonderful international community exists at our school.

Here is our class on International Day in their colourful national costumes! Take 1!

Take 2!

Both Mrs Endo our School Head and Mrs Levy our Elementary Principal dropped by our parade to enjoy such a colourful  display of costumes!

INTERNATIONAL WEEK PRESENTATIONS

FRANCE

In the Montessori school we enjoy such wonderful presentations prepared by our classroom parents. Our first presentation took us to the country of France. Both Julien’s & Margaux’s mum showed us how the fashion from many years ago has changed over the centuries.

The children were fascinated by the “puffy” dresses that the ladies wore in France in the 1700’s.

All the children engaged in a fun activity that children long ago would have enjoyed known as, “Paper dolls.”

Each child coloured in his/her costumes and were given a paper doll with his/her own face glued to the costume to interchange and play with for fun.

What a interesting experience to take home and learn about.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Then we were given a group experience by Jennifer’s mum from the Unite States of America. She discussed with the children that she was thinking about what would be an American experience….apple pie? No, that comes originally from England. How about hot dogs? No, that comes from Germany. This got Jennifer’s mum thinking that the USA is made up of people from many countries and with them they brought their cultural activities and customs. This can also be known as a, “melting pot.” While we watched a fun animation explaining what a melting pot is for the U.S.A, the children engaged in a hands-on group activity.

Look what we made with finger painting!

What a wonderful keepsake for our classroom to have of this experience and to remember that we are all part of a ‘melting pot’ within our school community!
