On October 19th the Montessori and Elementary students joined together for the first “Fun Day” for the year. The theme was based on reading which we love doing each day. Each child was asked to dress up in their favourite story book character. We also worked on a class project which was a door design of a book cover that we chose being- Shape Space by Cathyn Falwall. Learning the names of our shapes and searching for shapes within our classroom as a transition activity was also fun. We discovered that shapes are all around us!
As part of the fun on Fun day we travelled over to the main building and worked together by pasting our faces all over the door design over. The all we had our photos with a classmate to showcase our book characters. Don’t we look great!
In small groups we all went on a “book cover” tour with two grade 5 students to see what each Elementary class from 1-5 had creatively designed on their doors.
Another “fun” activity was when two elementary mum’s came in to our classroom to read two stories to us with such enthusiasm! They kept us engaged and mesmerized the whole time!
Overall, our “Fun day” was a success because both the Montessori & Elementary schools were able to come together to share their love of reading. The characters within the books are what make reading interesting, inspiring, amazing and just pure fun!
