Grade 9 Day of Reflection: A Day of Fun, Exploration, and Collaboration

+ posts

A few weeks ago, on October 27th, Grade 9 students had their educational and fun-filled Day of Reflection, which was organized by Ms. Masson. Day of Reflection is a day to reflect on a student’s past actions and experiences, for example, reflecting on the things they learned, the program they did, and the mistakes they made. Reflection is an important part of learning. If students want to grow up or progress, reflecting on what they have done before is indispensable.

During this day, students in Grade 9 had some activities to approach SMEO “Life-Long Learner” which means that people can learn what they want whenever they want. For Grade 9 students, this was also a wonderful opportunity to contemplate the meaning of life. Tingfei, a Grade 9 student who participated in the Day of Reflection, stated, “The definition of this topic can be divided into two different aspects. The first one is to keep learning new things when we are young because it is a new world for us and everything is new. The other one is to keep improving and summarizing our experiences in the past.” Grade 9 students got the opportunity to collaborate and foster greater cohesion within the class.

In addition, Grade 9 students also had an activity with Grade 2 students who are quite special because they only entered elementary school a year ago, just beginning to develop a sense of community. At this age, they harbor incredible imagination about the future and the world. For the activity, we interviewed another student to gain some feedback. The student, Nuo (G9), stated: “I learned how to collaborate with friends and I also read a letter from a Grade 2 student that was so impressive for me.” This answer shows that the things innocent children ponder about are always fascinating. We often wonder how such young minds can pose such profound questions. The inquiries they make might be ones we have asked, but as we grow older and become preoccupied with the demands of life, we often have less time to contemplate the true meaning of existence. The activity is reciprocal as it not only provides Grade 2 students with answers from those who have gained deeper experiences but also reminds the grown-up Grade 9 students of the innocent and profound thoughts of young children.

Overall, Day of Reflection was an important and unforgettable experience for Grade 9 students.
