Dividers
Now we have installed plexiglass dividers in the cafeteria.
We pretend it’s visiting hours at the penitentiary, pressing our palms against the faux glass.
Prisons—what a joke!
The transparent separations once found only in banks and gas stations are now ubiquitous.
For safety, we have installed dividers in our courtrooms and state houses, our phones and news feeds, and our hearts.
Our reflections multiply. We are on all sides.
Something may not love a wall, but there is something craving.
