This year, the Saint Maur High School has shown their true art talents and imagination through their SLOGO designs. On Friday October 6th, everybody got a wonderful insight into each grade’s SLOGO and SLOGO video, most of which were absolutely hilarious. SLOGO is a word combination of “slogan” and “logo,” and every year, each homeroom in the secondary school creates their own original SLOGO that best describes their class. Let’s check out what each grade thinks of themselves!

Grade 9

The Grade 9 slogan this year is “Going for Gold,” which means that their class strives to be the best version of themselves and achieve first place in everything they do. Their logo is basically their slogan, except that the G’s correspond to both homeroom teachers, Mr. G and Ms. Gaya. And obviously, one G is bald to represent Mr. G! (And the other has hair because Ms. Gaya has luscious hair we simply cannot miss out on.)

The Grade 9 representatives, Julia and Marin explained that their slogan was chosen through a group discussion with the entire class. They felt that the main reason they are so successful is because of their hard-working homeroom teachers who go out out of their way to help them. To create their video, Julia explained that since everyone had to be in the video, they separated themselves into groups based on their interests, such as art, basketball, drama, and more. In each clip, the Gr. 9 original GG drink was featured to boost up their confidence to GO FOR GOLD.

Grade 10

The slogan the 10th graders picked this year is the famous phrase “GYAT.” This specific acronym was picked because they decided to dedicate their SLOGO on their behaviour. It is said, even by themselves, that they often misbehaved last year and even got into a “fairly good amount of trouble last year,” Grade 10 class president Masaya stated.

“GYAT” is an acronym for “Get Your Act Together,” which matches their class because of their common mischievousness. Another reason for this peculiar choice of slogan is to primarily step up their game, and act like 10th graders.

This slogan idea came from a fellow classmate, and everyone agreed since it was relevant to their grade, and it was catchy.

The Grade 10s’ SLOGO video was based on an Anime opening from Jujutsu-Kaisen season 2. Luckily for them, the grade 10s have a wide variety of different skilled people, including editors and people skilled in cinematography. Because of that, it was most necessary to include everyone into the video. In the end, the editors made the video into what it is now and referenced the anime into their video as much as possible. It is also said that the editing team stayed up late to edit the video, despite their busy schedule. The entirety of the class of 2026 owes them their thanks.

Grade 11

The fact that this year’s Grade 11 is one of the smallest classes in all of high school perfectly fits their slogan: Small Class Big Dreams. This connotes that despite being the smallest class, they have just as much ambition and determination as any other lass in high school, Grade 11 class president Hippolyte explains.

The actual logo, SCBD, is the abbreviation of their slogan, Small Class Big Dreams.

Despite such a witty performance, it turns out that 90% of their SLOGO video was improvised!

The actors were inspired by reality TV shows and filmed in a single afternoon, with a total of 3-4 hours used. The editing team managed to finish the video right before the assembly happened. What a save!

Grade 12

And last but not least, the seniors, the class of 2024. This being their last year at Saint Maur, what would they possibly have chosen as their SLOGO?

The Grade 12 SLOGO this year is “4! Factorial memories, Infinite futures.” The 4!, or 4 factorial, is a mathematical notation which holds more meaning than we can imagine. First of all, the maths notation equates to 24, which represents their graduation year – 2024.

Secondly, 4! also equals to 1*2*3*4 and shows how they have progressed over the four years in their high school. Each number from 1-4 represents each year in high school and the memories they have accumulated throughout high school. Another easter egg of this SLOGO represents themselves as a class, as it explains how each individual is unique, but when they work together they become stronger and better.

Their slogan, “Factorial memories, Infinite Futures,” introduces how the relationships they build throughout their high school life are a memorable factor of their future as they all go down different paths. It is also dedicated to the SMEO “Life-long Learners” because they’ve learned so much through the past four years, and have more to learn in the years to come.

Like other classes, it was mainly a class agreement on the best idea. Specifically, a student named Xingyang, the president of Math Club, came up with the idea 4! and its equivalence to the class of 2024.

Collaborating in different, smaller groups as the cooperative students they are, the 12th graders filmed their video based on memories. And what better way to showcase that than through music! And whilst the music was rolling, they presented short flashes of their childhood memories at Saint Maur before moving on to present day and dancing to the songs defined as most popular over their high school careers.

In conclusion, the SLOGOs of the 2023-2024 school year at Saint Maur High School not only showcased the creativity and collaboration within each grade, but also offered a glimpse into their distinctive personalities and aspirations. As the school year continues, these SLOGOs will continue to shape the unique identity of each class and leave a lasting impression on the entire school community.
