The quiet chatters and murmurs echoed in the auditorium; the rare occasion where the entire high school comes together for an assembly, a symbol of change and big decisions. On the 27th and 31st of January, the annual executive student council elections and the inauguration ceremony took place, a big moment for the High School student body, a mark of a new year.
The elections for the executive council is an important one, the team of 4; president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary working as a team to unify and improve the High School which is a large role with a lot of responsibility. A big congratulations and acknowledgment towards the past executives for the last term. They accomplished many projects under the theme of ‘tradition’ such as fundraisers, return of old socials, and new concepts such as mascots and varsity jackets. Sarah reflected on the last term, saying “I’m most proud of being able to accomplish many of our long-term projects and aligning our theme of tradition while successfully integrating new concepts such as the mascot competition. I’d like to thank my amazing team as well as the entire student council for supporting me and always having my back.” Balancing projects is no easy feat, and the team did an incredible job of maintaining effective communication within and outside the student council whilst continuing and putting old and new projects into action.
Only one pair ran for the role of executive president and vice president, Sarah (G11) and Trois (G11), whom are both very experienced, the president carrying on from last term! This year the theme was ‘highlight the best of us’, emphasizing the good parts of the school, whilst acknowledging the potential areas of improvement and focusing on expanding interscholastic events. The determination and passion that the pair present ensure a positive and hopeful year, and we wish nothing but the best for them in their final year.
