Grade 3 Recorder

Grade 3 are making excellent progress in recorder study! This is my 4th year teaching recorder and so far, they’re definitely the group with the most enthusiasm for this instrument which is very exciting!

Grade 3 Recorder Worksheet

Recently, we went on a “trip” to Vienna (i.e. the bulletin board outside the Music Room with photos from the HS Vienna Trip) and learnt about the music greats like Beethoven and Mozart. Students then practiced their music ABC’s and played Ode To Joy on their recorders. Great work Grade 3!

3RB + 3FS – Recorder A, G, E

Grade 3 have been learning how to play A, G and E on the soprano recorder. We then sang ‘Apple Tree’ played a game. 2 people were the ‘gates’ and whoever was caught at the end of the song had to play a secret code to unlock the gates. If the secret code used the notes A, G and E and had a nice sound (gentle breath and no ‘peekaboo’ holes), the gates would open and they would be free again! The students did such a good job that we ended up creating an extra set of gates! We then finished the lesson by revising La, Sol, Mi (A, G, E) on staff whiteboards.

Recorder Morse Code

4T and Grade 4 French School worked collaboratively in small groups to create their own words on recorder using Morse Code (long and short sounds). They had to use tonguing and be really clear with their playing while the other students listened carefully to what word they were spelling.
