Moving between Solids and Silhouettes
(Geometry and Measurement)
Students will be learning to describe the properties of geometric solid shapes. By working to visualise and then identify the shapes as a solid, students will use this to imagine the object from different perspectives. 3-D perceptions will be an integral part of learning in this unit.
Fraction Cards and Decimal Squares
We are looking at fractions that represent halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, sixths, eighths, tenths and twelfths. We will also begin to recognise decimal fractions of tenths and hundredths. Comparing values of fractions and decimal fractions, students will become more aware of their place value when calculating equations.
Landmarks and Large Numbers
We jump into our 5th unit with style! Investigating addition, subtraction and the place value system we strengthen our knowledge of number. We look at different algorithms to help us solve problems quickly and efficiently.
Size, Shape and Symmetry
A close look at measuring tools and identifying polygons will be part of our new unit. Organising quadrilaterals and measuring right angles will be a helpful way to begin to build angles. We look at symmetry and area of regular rectangles and polygons as we learn to break them apart.
Multiple Towers and Division Stories
A return to multiplication and division will help our students to consolidate their understanding and application to word problems.

This unit helps students to record, organise, and represent data, including measuring the heights of first and fourth graders! New vocabulary will be learned to find the median, draw conclusions on data, describe probability and conduct experiments to analyse a set of collected information.

Multiplication and Division: Factors, multiples and arrays
When you think of objects in our everyday life that come in arrays, you are able to come up with the product of the items by using multiplication. If you know your multiplications up to 12×12, then your division knowledge is also stronger.
