3rd grade is learning the implications of various forces in the natural world. We considered friction this week and how high and low friction affects our lives.
We set up a fair testing model to experiment with the effects of friction from various surfaces on a rolling marble.
Students set up ramps to give the marbles equal force each time they ran the experiment. Then, they measured the distance the marble traveled. This data from multiple runs gives us information on the relative friction of various surfaces around the school.
There was a lot of cheering on marbles and scrambling across the floor!
