We finished up our main unit non-fiction and the kids loved it! We had a little celebration with 1G and shared all the things we have learned over the past 2 months. They learned how to read like researchers (and Steve Irwin) to make books more exciting and engaging. We have been talking a lot throughout both units about how important it is to stop and talk or think about a page to help build comprehension and synthesizing skills.
Reminder that we are starting opinion writing from the first week next year. Talk to you child about what collection items they think they could bring in. They should fit into a small box or a ziplock bag.
Just like reading we finished up our non-fiction books. I will be reading over them this weekend and the beginning of next week. I hope to get them back to you early next week with feedback so you can see how hard they have worked.
Lots of finishing… We also had our number test today and they did AWESOME. They are really into addition and subtraction and enjoy the challenge of new problems. Feel free to ask about problems at home such as, “if we have 10 onions and I use 3 for dinner tonight, how many will be left?” Questions like this throughout daily conversation can very beneficial!
Christmas and Spirit week
Monday – Superhero vs villian
Tuesday – Crazy clothes/not matching
Wednesday – Night/Day
Thursday – Christmas decorations/headbands etc.
We will also be having our potluck during lunch time (and not go down to the cafeteria). We have sent a sign up sheet via email, please remember to sign up. If you would also like to send them in with a small lunch/onigiri for themselves that is fine as well.
