Week of February 12th

First off I will be gone next week and the kids will have a familiar sub. I will return after mid-winter break. My apologies for my absence.

Math
The kids have been learning about ways to measure and comparing measurements with things that change size such as a kids shoe and things that remain the same such as our class craft stick sets. We will then work on comparing distances.

Readers Workshop
This week we finished off our Tools For Understanding Books by talking about figuring out what a word means by looking at the sentence.
We also created our own audiobook which I have emailed you that we will share with Montessori on Monday!

Writing
This week we worked on talking about book reviews and why our books are some of our favorites while working on ways to compare as well as recommending a book for a another friend. We will finish off our opinion writing next week.

IPC
The kids have had a ton of fun learning about the brain, we compared our brains and animal brains as well as starting to make a poster on how to protect our brains such as wearing a helmet and eating healthy.

Week of January 29th

We are sending home a dream journal where kids can write down 2 (or more) dreams they have over the next week!

Math
We have finished our last unit, and did our pre assessment on measurement!

Reading
Kids are working on finding ways to help improve their understanding. This we touched on…
If you aren’t sure what’s going on then we need to go back and reread.
You can play a movie in your head to replay what you just read, or create one while you read.
We need to keep track of who is saying what and looking for quotations.

Writing
I was SO impressed with their writing this week! They have gotten started so quickly and remained on task while staying super engaged. They love doing opinion writing and writing reviews to help convince their readers.
They also showed a lot of improvement in helping their friends edit. They have been working so well together to find ways to improve their writing.

IPC
The kids are really curious about the brain and we learned how it is divided into several parts and how each part focuses on different skills.
