This week we have continued  to worked on a few ways to solve hards while focusing if it sounds right, looks right or makes sense. (Picture attached below)

Writing
They have been doing an amazing job writing reviews about games, restaurants, parks, etc. We have been working on trying to find ways to convince people why to go/not go to a place, play a game, etc.

Math
We have been doing more surveys and talking about ways of representing data by either using checkmarks, bar graphs, or pictographs. They are eager to collect data and finding different ways they can show a collection of data.

IPC
We have learned more about how grit and resilience to build or brain power. We had them practice puzzles, building towers, remembering cards, and doing math problems. They all had a chance to try most of them 3 times and see how each time it became easier, they could remember more, and they improved their completion time.

Art
We working on using tape to create birch trees and painting over the tape with water colors to make beautiful night or sunset skies.

Week of January 15th

Reading
This week we talked about what hard to read word strategies and finding out when some may be most useful such as “does it make sense” “does it sound right” or “does it look right”. When they know what may be wrong they can then find a more focused in solution.

Writing
We finished up our opinion writing about our collections and will move on to reviews next week. This week we talked about how to ask friends for quotes and using quotation marks, as well as how to politely disagree on something.

Math
We planned and conducted our very own surveys where we asked the class.

IPC
We have begun learning about the brain and the kids have shown a ton of interest! They are asking tons of questions and it has been fun seeing how our brain works and how sometimes it even tries to trick us!

First week back!

Welcome to 2018,

We have had an amazing year back.

Writing
We started the year with writing a few new years resolutions. They kids loved goal setting are are super excited to find ways to help improve themselves, as well as ways to help make their friends schooling more enjoyable as well.

We have also started opinion writing. We will keep their collections for a few more days so they can write about which ones are their favorite as well as comparing and contrasting.

Reading
The kids have become the “boss” of their reading and we talked about taking ownership of our learning and making sure to try different tools and strategies for when they get stuck.

Art
This year we made optical illusions by using a ruler to make lines and use alternation inward/outward curves to make it look 3D.

Math
We have begun talking about surverys and data collection as well as sorting and classifying object.

Word inquiry
We started to look into ways in which we use the “k” sound by looking at ways k, c and ck are used. We explored the room to find the evidence! We found out we use a¬†c when an a, o, or u are next; or a k when and i or e is next.
